Almonds are native to the mediterranean climate of the Middle East. Ukrainian almonds were bred in Crimea, an area that receives less than 2" of rainfall per month during the grow season. Only hybridized almonds, such as "Hall's Hardy", appear to have the disease resistance to be grown in wetter climates.
